A Bedroom Update: Creating A New Look With Kersaint Cobb
When we moved into our house, the bedrooms came complete with new carpets. My daughters bedroom was fitted with a particularly luxurious, very light cream deep pile that was lovely to the feet, but unfortunately didn’t take into account the fact that its new resident was a 13 year old with a penchant for MAC Cosmetics and a habit for drinking copious quantities of orange squash in a slapdash fashion. It soon became clear that the lightness of colour and the clumsiness of my daughter were not bedfellows and the beautiful carpet was soon looking like the remnants of a crime scene.
So when Kersaint Cobb asked me if I would like to review a product from their natural floorcovering range, I was very keen to do so. With a range of products in sustainable textures that have been sourced from producers around the world, I knew that I would be able to find a product that was both beautiful and hardwearing enough to cope with a now 17 year olds bedroom space. I decided to combine the new carpet with a small room revamp – we repainted the walls and doors in pink and white and picked a carpet that would blend nicely with this scheme.
Based in Birmingham, Kersaint Cobb has a huge range of products to choose from. So what benefits do these natural textured fibres bring to your home?
There’s a wide selection of sustainable wool products in a varied colour choice, from neutral tones to a bold stripe, in a range of 29 different styles. These range from Seasilk through to Pampas Boucle so whatever room you are looking to style, there’s one that will suit your space.
These natural fibres happily take on vegetable dyes to produce a varied range in either blends or solid tones. Sisal also has anti static qualities which adds to its appeal.
This product is backed with thin latex and its pale hues are a natural reflection of its originating landscape. It’s naturally breathable texture means that the tones of the fibres change with age. You can also choose fine seagrass, the fibres of which are harvested when much younger to provide a more intense green colour.
Jute is a delicate fibre which brings a calming feel to quieter areas of your home. It’s also completely recyclable and biodegradable.
Did you know that coir is made from coconut husk? The fine fibres are soaked, spun and woven into a floor covering that is as hardwearing as it is attractive, bringing the outdoors in.
There’s a range of twelve fabulous oak styles, ranging from light to dark, in all colours and finishes. You can choose your finish to create your own unique natural floor that will age beautifully. The planks are on a grading scale from 1-5, meaning that you can see the variation of colour or frequency of knots that you can expect from each range.
These gorgeous runners come in a standard 69cm wide which makes them perfect for most staircases. Made from 100% sisal, they have prefinished edges and are super durable. You can combine them with a broadloom sisal boucle which will complement the look perfectly.
So which carpet did we choose for Ella’s room? I investigated the options by using the Colour Search option on the website. You can refine your search by product and colour which is hugely helpful when there is so much to choose from. There’s also an excellent Instagram account which will give you ideas for products suitable for decorating hallways, living rooms and other spaces within your home.
And the final choice? We went for the Grandeur collection in Port Louis. A woven grey in 100% wool, it was ideal for a teenage girls room. Hardwearing, yet still soft to the touch and attractive to look at, it combined beautifully with the pink and white walls to create a bedroom haven for Ella. It’s the perfect flooring to suit both the house and the space.
Kersaint Cobb have a mission statement that says ‘with Kersaint Cobb flooring, you can really travel the world from the comfort of your own home’. Their natural floor coverings originate in the hills of New Zealand, the beaches of India, the forests of Asia and the deserts of Africa and South America. Their quality products reflect the variety and beauty of the natural world and the designs are both modern and traditional. Ella’s delighted with her new carpet and it’s transformed the room from very scruffy to super stylish, whilst at the same time providing excellent quality and durability. An all round winner!
